At Sanctuary Centers, our friendly and professional team provides culturally sensitive, low-cost psychological testing/assessment services to all clients enrolled within any of our treatment programs.

Highly trained doctoral interns participating in Sanctuary Centers’ Doctoral Internship Program conduct all of our initial psychological testing. Those initial tests are then reviewed and finalized by our supervising psychologist, Denise Mock, Psy.D. Each specific assessment is tailored directly to the client and their presenting problem. Some clients want to know more about their personality; others want to know if they have a mental illness, while still others worry they have a learning disability. To select the proper test for finding the answers each client is looking for, the test itself is always preceded by a question, termed the “referral question.” Typically, tests include at least one personality measure, with cognitive and memory assessment also completed if the referral question indicates a need to include them. Finally, to help structure each client’s specific treatment plan around their personal needs and strengths, the results of our testing are tailored to describe every single one of our clients as people rather than subjects.

What is a psychological assessment?

In short, assessment is the process of using evidenced-based tools to answer specific questions about our clients to aid us in making positive, impactful decisions for treatment. During the assessment, our team compiles a wide range of data to create a narrative that addresses the client’s referral question.  This data often includes interviews and observed behavior. Upon completion of assessment, Sanctuary Centers takes a careful, systematic approach to develop evidence-based treatment recommendations for our clients.

At Sanctuary Centers, we most frequently conduct two types of assessment:
  • Personality
  • Memory/Cognitive testing

Often times, these types of assessments can be combined with other more specific tests to provide fuller, more detailed view of the difficulties a client may be facing. Specific tools and testing instruments may be selected based on the individual referral question. This specific question is often generated by our team of caring professionals at Sanctuary Centers and/or the family/loved ones of our clients. The most commonly examples of these are:

  • MMPI-2
  • MCMI-III
  • WAIS-IV
  • WMS-IV

Additional instruments can be utilized if further information is required.

How Much Do Psychological Assessments Cost?

Psychological Assessments are included in Mental Health Inpatient Care.

For Mental Health Outpatient Care, psychological assessments can range from $300 to $1,200 depending on the test (private pay).

For community members that are not current clients of Sanctuary Centers, please refer to the Hosford Clinic for assessment options.
