Mental illness can be a difficult and often bewildering experience not only for our clients, but for their families as well. That being said, family involvement is often an important and necessary part of our clients’ treatment. At Sanctuary Centers, we provide couples counseling and family counseling for our clients and their partners and families. We consider this type of counseling integral to the overall success of our clients’ treatment plans. The compassionate, knowledgeable aid of a highly trained therapist can provide critical support through the arduous journey to mental health and well-being. Our therapists have honed their expertise over years of dedicated work with families confronting mental illness. By teaming our therapists directly with clients, families, and one another, Sanctuary Centers provides a highly coordinated team approach to treating mental illness.
What to Expect
We work together with families to set meaningful, achievable goals.
Program Goals
- Educate clients on issues general to mental health and specific to each individual.
- Change family dynamics by improving participants’ communication skills, educating family members, and developing strategies to prevent escalation in heated situations.
- Work toward resolving ongoing familial issues in an effort to repair relationships and build trusting bonds.
Services Include:
- Therapeutic support geared toward for the family as a whole unit. Family therapy sessions address problems in personal and familial relationships from multiple perspectives. Family members and couples are encouraged to build and practice improved communication and coping skills throughout these sessions.
- Multi-Family Group: At Sanctuary Centers, we believe growth takes place through the development of satisfying, respectful relationships that enhance and validate the self. Our Multifamily Groups emphasize personal growth and healthy communication within the family unit. Our families learn to empathize with other families without losing themselves in the process. All group meetings are structured to help our families develop the skills necessary to handle the unique problems mental illness poses. Everyone is allowed to experience the natural and logical consequences of their decisions and actions.
- If it is required, Sanctuary Centers can facilitate video conferencing sessions for family members who are remotely located.
